Practicing designs at home

Pastry chef

This is the man that I am doing my three page paper on. He is a very interesting man in my eyes. His name is Pierre Herme and he is a famous pastry chef. He is a very wealthy man and I hope I can become someone just like him. He is very important to people in England, Tokyo and France. I want to be famous for the foods and recipes I make someday...

Cookies

It may be hard to believe but I made a whole batch of these delicious chocolate chip cookies and when I look back at them the next day their was only a couple of them left. They must of been very yummy for them to go away and get eaten so quickly. I love my cookies! (: I think I make them perfect.

Rice crispy treats (:

Final cake for course 2

For course two at joann's fabric the frosting I made and brought to class was very soft and too hard to work with. In order to have your flowers stay and create the actual nice shape you have to make sure your frosting is stiff enough but not too stiff or too soft. I tried to create roses to put on my cake but the shape wasn't coming out the way I wanted it to so I just went with something simple.

My favorite rose

This is my favorite rose that I made so far (:  Out of all the flowers I learned how to make I found this one to be the easiest for me. These flowers are something that you can put on your cakes to decorate them to make them look more attractive. I love this blue color I used and how great my frosting was cooperating with me while practicing my flowers.

Designs

I found this design to be very cool and I learned how to do it very quickly.

Practicing

At joanns fabric we sometimes use something called a practice board where  it comes with many different pages that has all kinds of designs that I can practice making. To me this practice board comes in very handy because it gives me a chance to basically trace the design. I can practice all different types of designs so I can learn how to decorate my cakes and cookies that I bake. It may seem like its difficult to do all these things but its actually very easy. The only problem that you can have is if your frosting is too soft or if you don't angle your hand correctly. After a little practice it turns out to be very easy.

Tulips

Okay so these are tulips. These were by far the most hardest flower I ever had to make! They come out to be very beautiful but as you can see here I need a little more practice. The reason why it was a little hard for me was because my frosting wasn't as stiff as it should've been. We had to make sure we made all the petals even, it just turned out to be a mess for me the first time I tried lol but I'm practicing more on this flower. Its still not my favorite but I'm going to learn how to make it look better. Practice makes perfect (:

Having fun

I love my senior project! My mom and I went to the grocery store and decided to buy a recipe book that had all sorts of pastries in it. I'm going to read and look through it to see what other different things I can try to create. Even though it's hard to try and squeeze all this stuff into my week for my senior project I always push myself to not give up and get it done. My mom has also been a great impact on me while going through this process. It's actually not as hard as I thought it would be. Learning how to bake myself and decorate pastries was the best idea I could come up with for myself because I love to cook. This is such a great experience for me and now I know that I don't only enjoy cooking regular food on the stove but I love to bake desserts as well. I feel like this is going to help me a lot with my future and I'm just so excited to see what my future has in store for me. I'm not giving up!!

More flowers

Here are some other pretty flowers I enjoyed making. These weren't hard at all. I actually loved how they came out the first time I tried. While making this flower, using confection sugar came in very handy. We had to pour some out in front of us and after we used our frosting to create the shape of the flower we had to dip our pointer finger and our thumb into the sugar and make the petals pointy, it wasn't hard.. you just have to be real gentle while creating this flower. I really enjoyed making these.

Creating flowers

These are some flowers I made at one of my classes at Joann's fabric. I was very proud of these (: When the teacher taught me, I learned really quick. These were the favorite flowers I learned how to make so far. When I make my cakes at home i'm going to start putting a lot of these on it with many different colors of flowers. Learning how to make flowers was the best thing I loved how to do. I'm looking forward into learning how to make other flowers as well.

Struggles

I love my senior project and I don't regret choosing it but I have faced many struggles. The first thing I struggled with was trying to plan the days I would go to work with my independent baker at her home. We had to go around her and my schedule so we can actually make it work. At first we had a problem but we solved it and now I go to her three times a week (: A different struggle I faced was with joann's fabric. After I finished course 1 I was going to sign up for course 2 but in order for them to teach the class they have to have more then 5 students. I guess they didn't have enough students so they just cancelled the class. I was so upset and didn't know what I was going to do because I couldn't just not take course 2. So what I did was I went to my mom and told her what was going on so we drove out to the joann's fabric in Henrietta and luckily their course 2 class was in session. I signed up and everything turned out fine. After course 2 finishes i'm going to do course 3 at that same location as well. I was almost ready to give up because I thought I had no other option but when I spoke to my mom she helped me and we solved the problem real quick. So, they were little minor struggles but they were something that I overcame.
