Fondant and buttercream

The first picture at the top is an example of what fondant is and the example below it is an example of buttercream icing. I personally like working with the buttercream more because it taste better in my opinion but the fondant helps to make very BEAUTIFUL creations. I will definitely choose to work with fondant when creating a cake for any special occasion.
